Rainbow Girls
“A gang of sweet angels punching you in the heart”
Rainbow Girls are a Northern Californian folk-rock trio composed of Erin Chapin, Caitlin Gowdey, and Vanessa Wilbourn (also known as Vanessa May), originating from the North Bay area of California.
They formed in 2010 while attending the University of California at Santa Barbara, initially performing at an underground open mic night called “Bean Night” in Isla Vista.
The band began as a larger group of women musicians who bonded over their shared passion for music and soon evolved into a trio after some lineup changes.
Their music blends indie, folk, Americana, a cappella, and rock and roll, characterized by rich harmonies and multi-instrumental performances involving guitars, ukulele, accordion, banjo, and more.
Rainbow Girls have released several albums, including their crowdfunded debut The Sound of Light, Perceptronium, American Dream, and a cover album Give the People What They Want.
Known for their authentic, grassroots approach and dynamic live performances, Rainbow Girls emphasize genuine connection with their audience over polished commercialism. Their music reflects themes of resilience, community and social awareness.
“Gorgeous three-part harmonies, raw lyrics, and overall warmth and genuineness.”
