Microwave Jenny
Microwave Jenny is the husband-and-wife duo of Tessa Nuku and Brendon Boney, who have been making music together since 2007. Their name is borrowed from the Aussie film classic The Castle, a nod to the warmth, humour and unpretentious charm that runs through everything they do.
Blending pop, folk and jazz, the pair build their songs around Tessa’s vocals and Brendon’s guitar and harmonies, crafting catchy, heartfelt tunes that feel equally at home on a festival stage or in a lounge room. Their releases include Summer (2009), Crazy Crazy Things (2011), Chasing You (2012) and Microwave Jenny & The Six Song EP (2015), the latter recorded in London. Their music has reached well beyond the gig circuit, featuring on hit TV series Gods of Wheat Street and Offspring, alongside soundtrack work for Carlotta and the feature film Bran Nue Dae.
On stage, Microwave Jenny are seasoned road warriors. They’ve toured throughout Australia, the UK and Taiwan, playing Woodford Folk Festival, The Dreaming Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Peats Ridge, Bluesfest and The Aussie BBQ at the UK’s Great Escape, they also supported Sheppard on their 2015 national tour. Yet some of their most memorable shows happen far from the big stages. Famous for their house concerts, where they perform in fans’ own homes, the pair take pride in the DIY spirit of their career.
Known for their engaging live performances, close musical chemistry and down-to-earth approach, Microwave Jenny bring an uplifting energy to the stage. Nuku and Boney deliver feel-good music with soulful vocals, memorable melodies and an unmistakable sense of connection.
“Sweet, uncomplicated music [that] is hard to resist”
“The duo draw from an almost dauntingly wide range of influences (soul, lounge, synthpop), but funnel it all into something smooth”
