YolanDa Brown (UK)
Think saxophones, and most of us will immediately start thinking of jazz, specifically trad jazz.
No bad thing, maybe, as there are few instruments as beautiful as the saxophone, and few sounds as effortlessly beautiful as jazz, but YolanDa Brown is someone who has made the instrument truly her own with her delicious fusion of Reggae, Jazz and Soul.
Charismatic and charming, YolanDa Brown is a double MOBO Award-winning saxophonist, broadcaster and philanthropist.
She has toured with Diana Krall, The Temptations, Billy Ocean, Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra and collaborated with artists such as Snarky Puppy’s Bill Laurance, reggae legend Bob Marley’s son Julian and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. Her albums have received critical acclaim with both going in at No1 on the UK charts.
Brown was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts by the University of East London, met the Queen at Buckingham Palace, appointed Chair of the biggest Music Education charity in the UK "Youth Music”.
She presents her own Children’s TV music show. YolanDa’s Band Jam commissioned for CBeebies and now in its second series, you can also hear her on BBC Radio 4 Loose Ends with Clive Anderson and across many other shows on TV and Radio.
A real renaissance woman, set to reach new heights.
