The Wagana Dancers
Under the direction of Jo Clancy the Blue Mountains based Wagana Dancers share their dance, stories and culture nationally and internationally. They perform at Festivals, events and community celebrations, and offer dance in education workshops and shows for pre-schools, primary schools and high schools. Wagana has a strong youth focus and believes that every child living in Australia should be given access to share in the richness and beauty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait culture. In 2017 Wagana travelled to Glasgow and the Isle of Skye in Scotland, and the World Indigenous People’s Conference in Toronto Canada. They also participated in Australia’s National Indigenous Dance Forum in Melbourne.
Wagana acknowledge and respect the Darug, Gundungurra and Wiradjuri peoples as the traditional custodians of the lands they dance on. Wagana means ‘to dance’ in Wiradjuri language.
